Welcome to Mester!

Welcome to Mesters new website, a place for past, present and future students to interact. Mester Academy works hard to continuously improve Spanish language education, and to provide true immersion into Spanish culture. With this blog, we hope to keep students informed about whats going on in our school, as well keep them updated about cultural events throughout the city.

This month, we have the pleasure of hosting 400+ new students. In addition to Spanish courses, a wide variety of activities will be offered and groups will have the opportunity to choose weekend excursions, from options including Madrid, Segovia & Avila, Zamora, Valladolid or the Sierra de Francia.

Guided tours of Salamanca, as well as tapas tours, Salsa dance classes, and cooking classes will bring groups together, to experience Spanish culture firsthand. As usual, various thematic conferences will take place throughout the week. Last Tuesdays art conference focused on the Renaissance painter el Greco, whose famous paintings are stored mostly in Toledo, the city where he lived for 10 years. There he put his Italian training to work and completed many religiously themed paintings. Thursdays art conference concentrated on Diego Velzquez, one of the most well known Spanish painters from the 17th century, known for his portraits, especially those of the royal family. In addition to art conferences, our Monday and Wednesday history conferences emphasized the influence of the Spanish War of Independence, the First Republic, and the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. We finished the week with a literature conference about Miguel de Cervantes, one of the most prominent figures in Spanish literature, and writer of Don Quijote de la Mancha.

We are looking forward to showing next weeks incoming groups the experience of a lifetime! Stay tuned for updates and photos from this weeks excursions and socio-cultural activities.
